AUX: “Please tell us where you are originally from.“
Run In Muun: I am originally from Grand Rapids, MI.
“How did growing up in that city inspire you to become an artist?“
RIM: All of my family lives in Grand Rapids which includes 7 aunts and uncles, my grandparents and a million cousins. Lol. With that being said, my grandparents met in Grand Rapids while traveling with separate singing groups. My aunts all sang in church and in groups as well such as the Pilgrim Angels and so forth. Coming from a musical family I was always exposed to singing and playing some sort of instrument. Sitting through choir practice at my grandmother’s church was a typical Saturday. That created a spark in me and gave me the freedom to explore my own voice. I was encouraged and supported by my family. Eventually, I became known in Grand Rapids for singing at events all over.
“Where are you based currently?“
RIM: Currently I am in New York City
“The radi8er app is a digital streaming platform that features the top independent artists based on their location. Every city has a history. Every artist has a story. And that’s what we aim to highlight. Does your music reflect the sound of your current location or where you grew up?“
RIM: I believe my style is a reflection of both the soul and gospel that I grew up with. However, there is a blend of a more modern artistry… what you hear when you go to Ashford and Simpson’s sugar bar on open mic night or listen to “soul experience” at the Groove. The bass drop that I like in my music I choose to write songs too as well as the riffs I use when singing are a reflection of both.
“Where do you draw inspiration for your music? Are your songs direct stories from your life? Or does your life inspire the stories?“
RIM: I draw inspiration from my circumstances, life experiences that I have had. These include both the good and bad experiences. When I’m in love you can definitely hear it in the songs I’m writing, my most recent EP has tons of references to my husband because his love definitely changed the way I wrote and the passion behind it. Also, I always dedicate some part of my album to my children. The inspiration they give me is incredible, it helps me look at life and situations through a different lens.
“What would you say is the most important lesson for independent artists to learn before beginning a career in music?“
RIM: I would tell them to be honest about what they do or don’t like. People will force an instrumental or a particular genre of music on you based on how you sound or look. Be true to yourself and dedicated to perfecting that. Make sure you promote yourself in every way you can and don’t make excuses. If you can spend $100 on sneakers you can take that same $100 and pay for a Streaming platform or promotion on social media. Dedication and perseverance will get you where you want to be.
“We want to help spread the word on any projects, plans or developments you have in the works. What’s next for Run In Muun?“
RIM: I have a single called “Hardica” that will be able to be streamed on all digital platforms by October 5. My original EP “I love you for no reason” can be streamed on any and all digital platforms. I also plan to have an entire album completed by the new year.
